Field Communications Systems Engineer

Department:Information Technology

Reports To:Manager of Infrastructure and Security Services

Location:The successful candidate may choose any of our Minnesota sites as a home base (Hibbing, Eveleth, Babbitt, or possibly Silver Bay.

Travel:There will be significant travel between our Minnesota sites with routine travel to Ishpeming, Michigan, Toledo, and Cleveland.

Position Summary:

The Field Communication Systems Engineer (FCSE) engages in the design and support of all wireless networks at our US mine and plant locations and also provides support for our wired operational technology networks. This position will work closely with site IT and mining/plant staff to assure these networks are properly supported and performing as designed.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performance monitoring of any site wireless network systems
  • Design systems configuration that adhere to system standards
  • Provide support and guidance for operational/process control networks as locally requested
  • Documentation
  • Visio of all wireless networks and their connections to the wired network.
  • IP addressing management
  • Support and configuration procedures
  • Coordination of any necessary repairs
  • Perform site surveys as needed
  • Analyze and interpret data, and communicate any recommendations.
  • Provide technical support
  • Provide technical guidance to mine/plant site management and IT colleagues
  • Work closely with Union personnel
  • Work safely in an industrial setting
  • Travel will be required (support of locations in Minnesota, Michigan, and OH)
  • Other duties as required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in the technical field that may include the areas below:
    • Cisco routing and switching
    • Radio technologies
      • Motorola, Ubiquity, Cisco, Mikrotik, etc.
      • Mesh, PTP, RoIP
    • Dispatch networks
    • PLC and DCS networks
  • Experience in mining or manufacturing environment preferred.
