AREA:                          CONCENTRATOR OPERATIONS



The primary responsibility of this position is on-shift monitoring and management oversight of plant processes and trends, and performing hands-on field work and troubleshooting. This position works closely with concentrator operations, control room operators and process engineers to analyze the process and make necessary changes to keep the plant process stable.


  • Ensure that operations are operating in a cost effective manner and as efficiently as possible by monitoring key process indicators on a continuous basis.

  • Provide positive process related direction, oversight and leadership in a heavy industrial environment.

  • Coordinate with the control room operator to perform an in-depth analysis of concentrator processes and laboratory data at the start of each shift.

  • Coordinate with concentrator operations, control room operator and process engineers to optimize the performance of the process through use of the control system and field instruments.

  • Work with support groups to ensure process is in compliance (environmental, quality, safety).

  • Coordinate with operators and control room operator to troubleshoot and take corrective actions during process upsets.

  • Using a collaborative approach, take corrective actions when concentrate or pellet quality is off spec to correct conditions affecting quality.

  • Communicate with plant operations, plant maintenance, engineering and management staff to accomplish common goals.

  • Plan ahead by interpreting trends and identifying similarities between past and current situations/events, and make decisions to anticipate future direction.

  • Control product quality within defined specifications.Explore, analyze and execute ideas/methods to improve product quality to meet internal and external customer expectations.


  • Minimum of 2-year degree in mining, process or other related field OR at least 3-5 years work experience in a mining, process or mineral related field is required. 
  • Previous successful leadership experience is required (i.e. team/project leader, step-up supervisory role, training coordinator, back-up control room operator etc.).  Must provide examples of how past leadership experiences have improved operations.
  • Computer Skills – Must be skilled in personal computers (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and have the ability to learn and be proficient with other various Company information systems.  Must achieve a passing score on required computer assessment tests.
  • Ellipse, DCS and PCL knowledge is a plus.
  • Decision Making & Organizational Skills – Must possess strong troubleshooting and organizational skills and be able to resolve problems regarding equipment, materials, methods, processes and procedures in a timely manner.  Must be able to think logically using factual data and structure ideas to influence others.  Must make sound, timely decisions under conditions of uncertainty and risk.  Must be able to effectively multi-task and work well under stressful conditions with a variety of employees and departments.  Must be able to set goals, develop strategies and execute tasks to accomplish goals in a timely manner.
  • Collaboration & Communication Skills – Must be a team player and cooperative self-starter with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills who can work well with all crews, supervisors, control room operators and engineers in a team environment.  Must be able to confer, influence and settle differences of opinion in a positive and professional manner.  Must be willing to challenge the status quo.  Must identify and pursue new ideas and opportunities to improve production, safety, quality, add value and/or solve problems in a collaborative, cooperative manner.
  • Leadership Qualities – Must possess leadership skills necessary to direct the process flow to help keep the operation running efficiently and effectively.  Must develop and maintain good relationships, trust and respect by other employees.  Must be motivated, honest and dependable.  Must be able to deal with conflict effectively and demonstrate a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and positive attitude.  Must be able to motivate, empower and delegate.  Be transparent in motives.  Must work effectively and safely using a participative management style in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Vision – Must have a vision for the future and be able to anticipate problems, analyze issues and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.  Must be able to recognize symptoms and solve problems using multiple sources of information, with the ability to anticipate and visualize short and long term impacts.
  • Safety – Must have strong safety values, demonstrate safety will not be compromised and make safety an important part of department operation.  Must be able to understand, communicate and implement Company safety and MSHA rules.
  • Environmental – Must understand, communicate and adhere to Company environmental policies and procedures, and operate in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Quality – Must understand and support the quality management system.  Must look for ways to improve product quality, support the concept of continuous improvement, take initiative and demonstrate commitment and drive to optimize department performance and exceed current targets. Must understand quality specifications and have strong process troubleshooting skills.
  • Must adhere to departmental, safety, environmental and quality standard operating procedures.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Must work varying shifts with rotating days off.  Will be working with an assigned operations crew.
