Principal Functions

To perform physical and chemical analyses related to Process and Environmental Control, to trouble-shoot instrumentation, input laboratory analysis data, and to work on a rotating shift in the Analytical Laboratory. This position is a Working Supervisor position and requires the ability to accomplish the duties of the Shift Chemist as well as those of a Supervisor.

Specific Responsibilities by Priority

Observe and adhere to all safety policies in order to ensure 100% safe operation in the laboratory.

Maintain NOLA on-line silica analyzers.

Maintain a clean and orderly analytical area in order to adhere to high laboratory standards.

Perform titrations for ferrous and total iron determinations.

Perform physical analysis which requires frequent lifting of up to 35 lbs.

Prepare samples for testing by filtering, drying, crushing, and pulverizing as directed by the sample type.

Mix, divide, and riffle samples according to the standard laboratory procedure required in the preparation of all samples.

Record test results accurately in Process Control Computers and on laboratory data sheets.

Prepare precise solutions used in chemical analysis.

Perform special analysis as outlined by the Quality Manager.

Direct the workflow in the Analytical Laboratory to maintain an efficient and productive organization.

Posses a thorough understanding of the operation and control of the Concentrator and Pelletizer and work to complete their needs.

Participate in the training of new Laboratory employees.

Perform special sampling duties as outlined by technical personnel in other departments.

Ability to communicate at all levels of the operations

Must be a leader who is self-motivated, a team player and results-driven

Basic computer competencies, Windows and Microsoft Office preferred

Education2-4 years college or technical school training in chemistry / lab services, or equivalent. Supervisory experience a plus.

Experience2-4 years laboratory experience, including lab instrumentation; laboratory work at a mining or mineral processing operation desirable.
