Summary of Principal Functions:

To provide administration and coordination of all employee benefit plans, workers’ compensation benefits and non-occupational disability benefits between affected employees, management and benefit providers.

Specific Responsibilities (in priority order):

• Administer all employee benefit plans (pensions, medical, dental, vision, life, long-term care, home and auto insurance, short and long term disability programs, 401(k)) with respect to employee questions concerning coverage, payment of claims and processing application for retirement benefits.

• Communicate with employees/retirees to develop and maintain a positive relationship, answer their questions, and work to resolve any insurance, pension, FMLA, and other benefit related issues they may encounter during their employment/retirement.

• Facilitate management and reporting of claims for medical and or wage loss benefits to claims management company, with necessary support documentation.

• Coordinate claims review meetings for selected claims with claims management company representatives and appropriate management representatives on a scheduled basis.

• Facilitate the resolution of complex workers compensation claims including settlement resolution.

• Ensure that United Taconite LLC is in compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding workers compensation and MSHA regulations regarding reporting of incidents.

• Continuous updating of data in the ADP, Ellipse, Hewitt and various other data collection systems.

• Communicate verbally and in-person with all disabled employees during the course of the disability on a regular basis.

• Coordinate with the claims management company to ensure eligible employees are receiving proper care, including involvement from both local management and the claims administrator.

• Preparation of Steelworkers Pension Trust monthly calculation of contribution based on work hours.

• Preparation of hourly PSP quarterly reports to determine payment of profit sharing to hourly employees.

• Support the Area Manager of Human Resources and the Section Manager of Human Resources in achieving established policy and procedures on disability management, and protecting the company’s assets while providing quality services to eligible employees.

• Maintain all documentation, record keeping, and reporting relative to the return-to-work procedures.

• Develop and coordinate education and training for management, supervision on matters pertaining to statutory benefits and administration.

• Prepare weekly Human Resources report for distribution to Salary – NBU group and Corporate.

• Assist with hiring process and preparation of New Hire Orientation material and New Hire Orientation.

Education Needed:

• B.S. in human resources, industrial relations, business or equivalent experience; additional training in claims management and professional certification designation desirable

Experience Needed:

• 3-5 years hands-on experience administering workers compensation claims; human resources, benefits, or medical services experience desirable
