Description


PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:

Lead operations crews on the Hot Side areas to safely execute the operations plan on a shift-by-shift basis.

TYPICAL TASKS FOR THIS ROLE:

oUnderstand significant deviations from the department’s operating / maintenance plan - lead subordinates to correct and implement sustainable solutions to deviations.

oElevate deviations to the Section Manager that cannot be corrected at Supervisor level. Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet on a daily basis by coordinating and communicating with operations, maintenance, scheduling personnel, and assigning daily work assignments.

oMonitor and inspect the quality of completed work assignments.

oCollaborate with other supervisors to minimize variation between shifts and implement best practices.

oGather information from previous supervisor(s) and crew in the shift transition meeting and use this information to create a shift plan. Communicate this plan to the oncoming crew by sharing both the shift operating parameters and any special tasks required.

oComplete shift inspection of subordinates’ assigned areas and assign clean-up tasks to crew members and/or maintenance tasks to shift maintenance as identified from any out-of-standard conditions in the plant and process equipment.

oComplete work ID for Asset Management according to the standards set in the Maintenance Process Standards (MPS).

oResource crews with skills required to meet daily department plan requirements. Assign resources to equipment based on skill sets and seniority.

oSupport the Section Manager in cascading the Site Strategy down to subordinates and assist the Section Manager in the development of the Department Operating Strategies.

oCommunicate the Department Operating Strategy and objectives to crews.

oImplement continual quality improvement initiatives, communicate the priority of process improvement work to subordinates and monitor that process improvement work is completed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

oBachelor's/Vocational degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent work experience

oAt least 5 years’ experience in taconite processing or related industry preferred

oSupervisory or leadership experience preferred

oTeam player with strong written and verbal communication skills

oStrong computer skills or ability to learn new skills
