Summary of Principle Functions

The Middleware Engineer (ME) provides technical and support expertise within the Cliffs Middleware sector. The position will include assisting in the daily maintenance and support of all of the Cliffs Middleware applications and installed infrastructure technologies. The position will require assisting in the development of application architecture and infrastructure planning and helping with the design/creation of functional specifications, test scripts, and documentation. The role will be involved in project related configuration and installation along with lifecycle management and disaster recovery planning aspects of the Cliffs Middleware sector. The ME will also have some responsibility regarding system/security administration and user setup for applicable Middleware applications.

Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  1. Administration of Oracle Linux and Windows architecture in Cliffs Middleware sector.
  2. Administration and configuration of the Cliffs Citrix layer.
  3. Support, develop, and implement disaster recovery plans for Cliffs Middleware sector.
  4. Create and execute test scripts for production fixes and DR tests.
  5. Provide input into the development of technology roadmaps for current and future capabilities.
  6. Consistently deliver high-quality service to our clients.
  7. Familiarity with various monitoring tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c and future versions.
  8. Assist in identifying future application needs and evaluate proactive solutions.
  9. Active role in scripting, server maintenance, server planning, application tracking.
  10. Willingness to learn our current architecture (based on numerous platforms) which will provide a foundation as we drive towards future deployments.
  11. Actively learning the Cliffs environment to provide support assistance. Applications that will be part of support include Citrix, Exalogic, Ellipse, Business Objects, Kronos, and many more.
  12. Implement / maintain automated monitoring to ensure proactive handling of issues to minimize unplanned downtime.
  13. Participate in the implementation / maintenance of the backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies that meet recovery and availability requirements of Cliffs.
  14. Implement / maintain security policies within application configurations that are consistent with Cliff’s security guidelines.

Education/Experience Requirements

Education:

  • University degree in the field of computer science, information technology or similar/related field or equivalent work experience

General Experience:

  • 4+ years of technical experience including:
    • Demonstrated proficiency in application support
    • Experience in technically focused configuration activities
    • Problem solving – some experience in a professional environment demonstrating the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Experience in a customer-facing capacity

Technical Experience:

  • Oracle Exalogic Engineered Systems
  • Oracle SOA Suite
  • Server architecture standards
  • Oracle LINUX
  • ERP platform experience (Ellipse, SAP, Oracle, etc…)
  • Citrix Endpoint Management
  • Citrix XenApp and Desktop
  • Netscaler
  • SQL/PLSQL
  • Oracle Fusion Middleware
  • VMWare
  • IIS, Apache/Tomcat, JBoss
