POSITION: RAILROAD MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (LOCOMOTIVE)

LOCATION: BABBITT

AREA: RAILROAD MAINTENANCE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary function of this position will be to perform mechanical maintenance on locomotives and track maintenance equipment. Additional responsibilities include; engine repair, traction motor repair and change outs, air brakes and any other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of a 2 year degree in diesel or mechanical maintenance (preference given for diesel mechanic) OR at least 2 years of professional diesel mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic experience is required.

  • Applicants must have achieved or achieve a satisfactory score on the NSM Diesel Maintenance Assessment at the next available assessment testing date – see HR for more information.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills are required.

  • Electrical troubleshooting skills are preferred.

  • Hydraulic troubleshooting skills are preferred.

  • Must be able to read and understand schematics.

  • Proven mechanical aptitude in a previous applicable position.

  • Experience working with locomotives is preferred.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.This individual will be required to move locomotives and track equipment for maintenance purposes and operate heavy equipment in and around the shop and on the tracks.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.

  • Highly motivated to learn new tasks and assist co-workers.

  • Excellent attendance record.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, demonstrated positive attitude, and good work ethic.

  • Must be self-directed and have a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • Must meet vision requirements (specific to determining colors).
